When? Started: 1993 Who? Started with staff and friends from U H S, Chester. Organiser: Martyn Harris We walk every Wednesday and Saturdays, New Years day and May Day. How many walk? Walks take place as long as there are at least 2 wanting to walk on that day. More walk on a Wednesday than on a Saturday. Most ever: 29. Current group size walking: 2-10 in mid-week and 2-4 on Saturday. Where do we walk? Saturday: Anywhere in North and Mid-Wales, Peak District, Shropshire and the Long Mynd and as far North as the Trough of Bowland. Thursday: Anywhere within about 40 miles of Chester. Type of walk: Distance: 6 – 14 miles (but usually under 10 miles). Climb: up to 4000’ (but usually very much less!). Ysceifiog, Babell, Llixwm and Nannerch 29th January 2009

The best patch of wild Snowdrops that we have seen this year to date.
The last of the muddy patches, well nearly!
Will they or won't they?

Time:4 hours 38 minutes; On the move walking average:2.4 m.p.h.;Overall walking average:2.0 m.p.h.
Group:Martyn, Richard, Roger, Dave J., Gordon, Celia, Annie H., Fran and Tito, Sue and Michel.
The weather was overcast but dry and without any sun quite cool. We knew sections of this walk could be a bit on the muddy side, but today it more than lived up to its reputation. Hopefully everyone's boots were given a good wash on getting home and for some gaiters and trousers too! Nevertheless this was a good walk, allowing us all to experience sections of paths never used before. We even encountered a friendly farm dog that just wanted us to show us his ball! The lunch spot wasn't the best in the world, but no-one really grumbled and we all happily celebrated the completion of the walk in the Britannia Inn at Pentre Halkyn. The Lees bitter was in particularly good form, but there again it usually is!
No baby calves this week, but there were a few quite young lambs to cause a few ahs!
Birds seen or heard today included:Robin, Wren, Herring gull, Blackbird, Carrion crow, Magpie, Fieldfare, Jackdaw, Rook, Housesparrow, Blue tit, Jay,Grey heron, Kestrel, Starling, Coot and Buzzard.
